[♐] MAP OF PANEM
↳ Full size (8MB)My reasoning and theories below the cut.
Just some rebuttals for the skeptics:
- “District 12 is too far north / its not in the Appalachians / it should be over West Virginia!” This is a map outlining the Appalachian mountains. My District 12 fits on the brown part pretty accurately. I don’t think anyone ever said it was over West Virginia.
- “There’s no coal in Pennsylvania!” Acquaint yourself with the Coal Region of Northern Pennsylvania and the bituminous coal fields of Western Pennsylvania. Its entirely plausible that coal was found in southern Pennsylvania.
- “It makes no sense that District 4, the fishing district, is nowhere near the coast!” I think this one’s due to a misunderstanding, the faint, present-day coastlines are underwater in this map, the darker, stronger colours are what remains of the land. District 4 is basically ALL coast.
- “The Capitol should be Denver / that’s not where Denver is!” I can’t find anywhere that Suzanne Collins said the Capitol was Denver, so I didn’t put it there. As for the point on my “givens” list, that came from the phi-spiral map, and I crossed out the Denver point to indicate I wasn’t going to follow it.
